Tell us about RL Concetti!

Rachel & Lauren: RL Concetti is our fancy way of saying Rachel and Lauren Concepts in short form Italian. We believe in Detroit. We believe in design. We believe in people, their dreams, their stories, their grit.  We believe that if we bring these things together we create a trifecta of awesome.  We also believe in rap music, karma, the perfect craft cocktail and intense hospitality. We met while working at an interior design firm and partnered to start the company. RL Concetti aims to break the mold on interior design, we focus on how humans function in a space. RL Concetti is more about human-centered design and less about the aesthetics. It’s user-centered; how all people in the space will use it. We stand apart with good customer service.

What was your experience with BUILD?

RL: We were a bit farther along in our business when we took BUILD. By taking the class we got to check off everything, slow down and learn the details of what it took to run our business. The opportunities that came through BUILD like the funding panel were also helpful.

 What’s next for RL Concetti?

RL: We are working with with a brand strategist now to get other creatives on board early in our process. By involving architects, owners and everyone that will use a space, we can better strategize using human centered design. We would like to take on more commercial and small business clients. We were recently introduced to Midtown Inc., a non
profit development organization, they put their faith in us and gave us the opportunity to manage the entire design of Dangerously Delicious pies in Midtown.

To the BUILD Institute Community,

On behalf of the BUILD Institute Board of Directors, we want to share that the Board has made the decision to pause operations at the end of 2025.

We recognize that we are living in a time of great uncertainty for small business support organizations across Michigan. This moment offers us an opportunity to reassess how BUILD delivers on its mission, retool our programming, and evaluate new partnership opportunities and our overall business model to ensure long-term sustainability and impact.

In the coming months, we will continue all scheduled programming through December to ensure that all commitments to entrepreneurs and partners are honored. During this time, we will also explore new ways to align our work with the evolving needs of our community, including our network of over 3,000 alums.

Please join us in showing appreciation for the team members and facilitators who have served Detroit’s entrepreneurs and supported BUILD’s mission since our founding in 2012.

If you have any questions about this decision or what it means in the near term, please email us at [email protected].

Thank you for your continued support and for being part of BUILD’s legacy of inclusive entrepreneurship.

With gratitude,
The BUILD Institute Board of Directors
