With support from local financers & peer lenders

We help people turn their business ideas into reality by providing them with the necessary tools, resources, and support network in Detroit. Whether its our classes, networking events, mentorship, or connections to resources we’re here to provide a nurturing community that allows ideas to develop and flourish over time.

Build Alumni 3C Funding

BUILD Alumni 3C Funding is our micro-loan for BUILD Alumni. Loans range from $2,500 to $10,000, are set to 3% interest, and have 36 month terms. If year 1 and 2 payments are made on time, year 3 repayments will be cleared by a BUILD Institute contribution grant.

Kiva Detroit

Kiva offers 0% interest, crowdfunded microloans ranging from $1,000 to $15,000 with 12 to 36 month terms, focused on character rather than credit.
Kiva is an active lender in over 70 countries, BUILD Institute is Kiva's local partner.

Detroit Soup

Detroit SOUP is a micro-granting dinner celebrating and supporting creative projects in Detroit. Ideators pitch their ideas to a local crowd and take home all the money raised at the door. Detroit SOUP is a great place to win a grant for your business while testing your concept on a crowd of local peers.

To the BUILD Institute Community,

On behalf of the BUILD Institute Board of Directors, we want to share that the Board has made the decision to pause operations at the end of 2025.

We recognize that we are living in a time of great uncertainty for small business support organizations across Michigan. This moment offers us an opportunity to reassess how BUILD delivers on its mission, retool our programming, and evaluate new partnership opportunities and our overall business model to ensure long-term sustainability and impact.

In the coming months, we will continue all scheduled programming through December to ensure that all commitments to entrepreneurs and partners are honored. During this time, we will also explore new ways to align our work with the evolving needs of our community, including our network of over 3,000 alums.

Please join us in showing appreciation for the team members and facilitators who have served Detroit’s entrepreneurs and supported BUILD’s mission since our founding in 2012.

If you have any questions about this decision or what it means in the near term, please email us at [email protected].

Thank you for your continued support and for being part of BUILD’s legacy of inclusive entrepreneurship.

With gratitude,
The BUILD Institute Board of Directors
